Fluoride
Fluoride is a substance found in many toothpastes that will make the teeth less vulnerable to acid attacks from bacteria. Using the right amount daily, will help prevent cavities. Therefore, fluoride is important in the care of the teeth.
Internationally, fluoride is strongly recommended to prevent dental cavities. No side effects occur at the recommended dose.
Basic advice Fluoride:
0 and 1 year: From the signs of the first tooth: brush 1x per day with fluoride toddler toothpaste.
2, 3 and 4 years: Brush 2x a day with fluoride toddler toothpaste.
5 years and older: Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste for adults. You can also use children’s or junior toothpaste. We advise you to look at the indicated age on the tube (for example 5-12 years). When in doubt, consult a dentist or dental hygienist.

Sealing
Sometimes new permanent molars have deep grooves and pits. As these are more difficult to clean, it increases the risk of cavities. The dentist can “seal” these chewing surfaces and “seal” the teeth against bacteria and protect the teeth against cavities. The dentist will painlessly apply a white or transparant layer of synthetic resin in the grooves of your teeth. This layer is invisible and can remain in place for years. Want to know more? Your dentist or dental hygienist will be happy to tell you more.
How does it work?
- The dentist or dental hygienist will thoroughly clean the teeth
- In order for the sealant to adhere well, the grooves and pits in the glaze are “etched” (roughened) with an acidic liquid or gel. This etching fluid is sprayed or vacuumed after a short exposure time
- The dentist or dental hygienist applies the sealant layer to the tooth with an instrument or brush. The sealant is very thin and flows along the edges of the grooves and pits
- The paint is hardened with a blue lamp
- The dentist or dental hygienist checks whether the sealant has been applied properly
