What is an implant?

When a tooth is lost, an implant can be a sustainable option for replacement. An implant is a screw made of titanium or ceramic that provides a replacement for the tooth root. These are materials that are generally well tolerated by the human body. After the implant has grown into the jaw bone, a crown can then be made on it. The advantage of implants is that no healthy teeth are affected, which may be necessary with a bridge.
